How We Process Geospatial Data

When we import your organization's geospatial data into OuterSpatial, we may process it to ensure it can be served efficiently for visitors via OuterSpatial Mobile and Web. Here are some changes we may make to your source data:

  • Because OuterSpatial's geospatial data traverses the entire globe, we reproject all datasets to "EPSG:4326 - WGS 84".
  • We may simplify area and trail segment geometries to ensure efficient delivery (e.g. file size) to our clients. More specifically, many trail segments, especially those created via GPS devices, have a large number of vertices that don't improve the appearance and, rather, increase file size unnecessarily. Simplifying these geometries minimizes the delivery file size without any noticeable changes to the appearance of trails.
